This isometric puzzle game challenges players to navigate their minions through a changing landscape by manipulating time and using various tools. Can you safely guide your minions through all 12 levels without any of them falling off the face of the earth? Chronominions starts in the present, where minions are to be guided around obstacles towards an exit. In later levels, this becomes impossible. However, by placing special portals, minions may be sent to either the past or future, where the world was different. While the background artwork changes, we sadly had no time left to adjust the tileset between epochs, so it always looks a bit “prehistoric”.

This intersting idea our team had rather late in the process turned into one of my favourite games so far. It also presented an interesting angle for the music. The main theme, “Tapping Minions”, is inspired by the electro swing genre. When changing the time (epoch) ingame, the music stays exactly the same and continues playing from the same position, except that the instruments are swapped for ones sounding more “medieval” (a harpsichord and some strings) or “futuristic” (digital synthesizers).

The soundtrack for the game “Chronominions” was created within the 48h window of the Mecklenburg Vorpommern easter game jam 2024. Sadly, I don’t have the topic and challenges were anymore, but it definitely was something that had to do with “time”. Hence our main idea.

You can play the game on Brutenis’ website.
