“Little Timmy often plays with his toy boat while bathing, imagining wild adventures. The boat bravely ventures through the water and fights all sorts of sea creatures.” In this “bullet hell” game you take control of your very own pirate ship. After each round you can level up your ship with randomized options, so every playthrough is unique.
This game was made by the second team our game jamming group formed during this jam (see below). I again took the role of the sound designer and musician and made their soundtrack.
The main menu theme leans on the classical chiptune style, keeping rather minimal in terms of the number of instruments, featuring a promintent melody, and including the occasional trill or note slide over a steady beat. You can probably tell that the ingame track “Bathtub Boat” was inspired by the famous theme from “He’s a pirate” (Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt 2003) from the movie “Pirates of the Carribean”. Just as in the main menu, I stuck with the playful chiptune style, going with the playful character of the game’s story. There is a single boss in the game, which gets his own short theme. “Whoa a Kraken!”
The soundtrack for the game “Oceandreamer” was created within the 48h window of the Mecklenburg Vorpommern winter game jam 2024. The topic was: “Astray – between dream and reality”. Optional challenges were as follows:
- Implement an easter egg
- Implement a multiplayer mode
- Every team member takes a break at least every three hours. Include these breaks in the game in some way.
You can play the game on Brutenis’ website.
